como critters - community care & compassion

Our History

Born from a deep love for animals and a shared desire to enhance animal welfare in our community, Como Critters was founded on Memorial Day weekend in 2022 by a group of compassionate neighbors. Faced with the plight of the community cats roaming our yards and streets, affectionately known as Como Critters, we came together with a mission to make a difference.

Over the past four years, our organization has flourished, fueled by our unwavering dedication to our cause. In that time, we've had the privilege of extending a helping hand to thousands of cats and counting, making a profound impact on the lives of both our furry friends and our community.

Our success is a testament to the tireless efforts of our officers, board members, and dedicated volunteers, who hail from diverse backgrounds and bring a wealth of experience and passion to our organization. Some are newcomers to our community, drawn by a shared vision of creating positive change, while others are lifelong residents with deep roots in the area.

Together, our voices form a powerful chorus, representing a significant portion of our local community united in our quest to address the community cat overpopulation crisis with humane, ethical, science backed solutions. With a steadfast commitment to innovation and progress, we strive to implement effective change through our progressive programs focused on community outreach, engagement, and long-term commitment.

As we reflect on our journey thus far, we are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our members, volunteers, and community partners. Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to create a brighter future for our beloved community and its cherished critters.

Our Mission

Our Refocused Mission at Como Critters

Our Purpose:
To build a more humane future for animals by empowering communities through education, awareness, and scalable support—shifting from direct rescue to sustainable prevention.

Our Path Forward:
After four years of hands-on rescue work, we are returning to our foundational strength: community-focused solutions. In 2026, we will complete the care of our remaining animals and shift our primary efforts toward education, local program development, and national outreach. We believe lasting change comes not from managing crisis, but from preventing it—by equipping people with knowledge, resources, and a collaborative model that can be shared far beyond our hometown.

Our Commitment:
We will continue to create programs that foster informed, empowered, and compassionate communities. For our supporters who have stood with us—and for those who will join us—we pledge to channel our energy into the work we are uniquely built to do: building a world where both people and animals thrive, together.
